Christopher Sanderson (1939)

Biography

Christopher Sanderson (b. Jerusalem, Israel 1939) studied at Leeds College of Art (1955–60), then the Slade School of Fine Art (1960–2). After working for two years in Rome, Sanderson worked and taught in Yorkshire, visited New York in 1964–5, worked and taught in London, 1966–8, then was again in New York. Among his awards was the Prix de Rome (1962), a John Moores Travelling Scholarship (1964), a Peter Stuyvesant Foundation Travelling Bursary to America in 1965, a Harkness Foundation Fellowship to America in 1968 and the International Symposium for Sculpture, Yugoslavia (1971). Sanderson began showing in group exhibitions at John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool (1961), had a one-man show at Axiom Gallery, London (1967) and was included in the RA show British Sculptors ’72, where he showed abstract works in metal and resin, coloured and with New York as a theme.
