George Hume Barne (b. Bristol, UK 1882 - d. 1935) was living in Paris by 1917. He is recorded as exhibiting at the Grosvenor Gallery in 1921 and became a member of The London Group in 1922. His work was included in the London Artists’ Association Exhibition in 1929. In a letter to Michael Sadler dated 26 August 1917, Roger Fry congratulates him on his recent purchases, and comments: 'Barne is very good. He lives in Paris and works with intense deliberation taking about 3 months over a single still life. He’s now in Gallipoli poor man.’
