Biography
In 1961 the artistic director of Grupo Ibiza 59 was the Catalan painter Alberto Porta y Muñoz (b. 1946) called Zush (1968-2001) and Evru (2001-present), son-in-law of Ivan Spence (1902-1983), a German born in Berlin to a Russian mother and a Scottish father whose name the gallery now bears. It held 142 solo exhibitions of artists from more than thirty countries, as well as a large number of group exhibitions. It organised the exhibition Inspiration Ibiza, of foreign artists residing in Ibiza including the Grupo Ibiza 59 in the Leicester Galleries, London in October 1964. In 1965 Galeria Ivan Spence was directed by Carl van der Voort, who shortly afterwards opened his own gallery.
