Gareth Mason (1965)

Biography

Gareth Mason (b. Pembroke, Wales, UK 1965), one of Britain's original ceramicists, lives and works in Hampshire. He studied at Heatherley School of Art, London (1982-3); Wimbledon School of Art (1983-4) and 3D Ceramics at West Surrey College of Art and Design (1984-7). And, in the summer of 1986, he spent a residency at the International Workshop of Ceramic Art in Tokoname (IWCAT), Japan. Others have included: International Studio, Jingdezhen, China (2016);  California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), USA (2011); University College for the Creative Arts, Farnham (2009-10); The International Keramik Symposium, Gmunden, Austria (2006) and Potter in Residence, South Hill Park Arts Centre (1995-8). He has had solo exhibitions the Roger Billcliffe Gallery, Glasgow, Scotland (1999, 2001 and 2005) and Jason Jacques Gallery, New York (2011 and 2014), amongst others,  and he has participated in numerous exhibitions in the UK, Europe, New Zealand, Kenya, Korea, China and USA. Mason is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association and Brother of the Art Workers Guild, London. A short film about his practice, White, won the Grand Prix at the 2002 Projections d’Argile festival in Montpellier.
