Biography
David Leverett (b. Nottingham, UK 1938 - d. 2020) studied at the Nottingham College of Art, 1957–61, then Royal Academy Schools, 1962–5. In 1965 Leverett had the first of a series of shows at Redfern Gallery and exhibited in Young Contemporaries, in 1967 at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition and in 1968 in Britain Painting and Sculpture at Whitechapel Art Gallery and the RA Bicentary Exhibition. Other solo shows were held at Bear Lane Gallery, Oxford; Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; ICA and overseas; and Jill George Gallery, 1995 and 2001. He taught at Slade School of Fine Art and Reading University. He produced both abstract and landscape pictures, sometimes large and epic in conception, as with his Sacred Gardens shown at the Redfern Galllery in 1990. Leverett’s work is in numerous major international collections, including, The McManus, Dundee, V&A Museum, Arts Council and British Council.
