Mo Jupp (1938 - 2018)

Biography

Mo Jupp (b. 1938 - d. 2018) was a sculptor in clay and a ceramic artist who studied at the Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts (1960-64) and the Royal College of Art, London (1964-67), being taught by Hans Coper in both schools, as as Lucie Rie and Colin Pearson. He taught at Farnham, Bristol Polytechnic, Bath Academy and the Polytechnic of Central London in Harrow and was a visiting lecturer in almost every art school in the UK and abroad. He is known for his memorable 'helmet' series of the early 1970s which were totemic anonymous clay heads which more than hinted at the Cold War arms race as well his tiny modelled nude female figures. Initially he had studios in Kent and London, but later lived and worked in France.
