Biography
Peter Coviello (b. Harrow, UK 1930 - d. 2006) was a painter and potter who studied at Willesden School of Art and Guildford School of Art (1951). He taught at Maidstone College of Art and Central School of Arts and Crafts, 1957–68. His first solo show was in 1957 and he represented Britain in abstract painting exhibitions in Scandinavia and Australia, 1960–1 whilst he was part of the Situation Group.
Coviello moved to Canada in 1968 and became co-ordinator of creative art practice at Sheridan College, Oakville. From 1969 he was involved with pottery after meeting Glasgow-born Liz Brown, whom he married. In both pottery and painting Coviello worked on a big scale. He lived for some years at Plainfield, Ontario, often exhibiting with his wife.
He later returned to London and was a resident artist at Florence Studios, showing with England & Co in 1993. During 1998, Coviello moved to Wales, where he continued to paint. His first major exhibition in London for 15 years, colourful abstract works, was at Woolff Gallery in 2003, shared with Barbara Delaney, Anne Podbielski and Denise Stonebridge.
