Lubna Chowdhary (1964)

Biography

Lubna Chowdhary (b. Dodoma, Tanzania 1964) lives and works in London. She received The Sir Eduardo Paolozzi Travel Award in 1990 and has since received three Arts Council England Awards. Recent solo exhibitions include Art Basel Hong Kong (2019); Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Kerala (2018). Recent group exhibitions include Frestonian Gallery, London; Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai (both 2018); Manchester Art Gallery (2017). She has been shortlisted for the Jerwood Prize in Ceramics, the Annual Freelands Foundation Award and has completed artists residencies at Camden Art Centre, and IASPIS Stockholm and in 2017 she was artist in residence at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London. Recent group exhibitions include Peer Gallery, London and MIMA, Middlesborough (both 2021); Green Art Gallery, Dubai (2020); Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai (both 2018) and Manchester Art Gallery (2017). Public collections that hold Chowdhary’s work include, the Government Art Collection, London; Art Gallery of New South Wales; Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery; Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi;  Leicester Museum and Art Gallery; M+ Museum, Hong Kong; Mead Gallery, University of Warwick; Nottingham Castle Museum; Gallery Oldham; Poole Museum; Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts, Norwich; and Ishara Foundation, Dubai.
