Jonathan Callan (1961)

Biography

Jonathan Callan (b. Manchester, UK 1961) studied at Goldsmiths College and the Slade School of Fine Art. He was the Henry Moore Fellow in Sculpture, Winchester school of Art (1993) and won the Boise scholarship in 1992. He has participated in group exhibitions in England, New York, Paris andf South Korea and had solo exhibitions at Hales Gallery, London;  his recent solo exhibitions have been: I don't believe you, Galerie Martin Kudlek, Cologne (2017);  Kernel, Hopstreet Gallery, Brussels (2016); Colony, Josée Bienvenu Gallery, New York (2016); Vacation, Hopstreet Gallery, Brussels (2015) and Words Will Fold, Galerie Martin Kudlek, Cologne (2014). Callan has made artist's books and has said: "Most of my work is derived from a fascination with materiality. I'm interested in fluff, dirt, dust. I'm interested in things breaking down. I'm interested in that which cannot be said but can only be shown. Most objects to me are not real until I can find what is inside". His work is in both public and private collections throughout the UK, Europe, China, USA, Korea and Japan.
