Sneinton Market has a legacy as a vibrant and colourful wholesale market and is rapidly becoming a hub for wider creative activity. Working alongside the urban design team Patel Taylor, we are developing a public art programme, kicked off by Bazaar, a curated art and community market which was held just in time for Christmas.
A lead artist will be appointed early in 2010 to develop a public art approach that is integrated with the design, and equally embedded within the local community. The project provides an opportunity for both artistic and design input to support the regeneration of the Market Square and create a vibrant sense of place.
The public art outcomes are deliberately flexible, allowing the potential for permanent or temporary commissions, embedded artworks, artist-curated programmes and events, and socially engaged practice. We look forward to keeping you updated on progress. And keep an eye on Nottingham — with the recent launch of the new Nottingham Contemporary gallery and our fellowship programme at Nottingham Castle in 2010, this is definitely a city celebrating contemporary art.
