In 2012, artist Robert Orchardson was commissioned by Argent to develop two companion sculptures for the reception and corridor spaces of ArtHouse in Coal Drops Yard, London.
The pieces for ArtHouse act as a singular work made up of two sculptural forms. The shifting repeat pattern suggests a sense of progression or growth, with the work changing and evolving as light and bodies move through the space.
The sculptures take the shape of curved freestanding screens composed of mirror-finished trapezoids. The geometric forms reflect their surroundings, offering views through the work and creating a play between interior and exterior.
Designed by award-winning architects dRMM, ArtHouse is an elegant residential building overlooking the Regent’s Canal with landscaped courtyards and glazed cloisters connecting the building to Handyside Gardens, designed by Dan Pearson Studio.
CAS *Consultancy commissioned Orchardson to deliver his works for 2014. The artist has long had a fascination with science fiction and Modernist visions of the future, which he translates into bold installations and sculptural forms.
