William Martin Larkins (1901 - 1974)

Biography

William Martin Larkins (b. Bow, London, UK 1901 - d. 1974) trained at Goldsmiths’ College alongside Graham Sutherland and Paul Drury. He completed 30 etched plates in his first two years at Goldsmiths' and was elected a member of the Print Society in 1922 and an associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1925. However, by late 1930 Larkins had abandoned printmaking entirely to pursue a career in advertising design. Over the next 40 years, until his retirement in 1970, he was a successful commercial artist, working for J. Walter Thompson, and after WW2 as art editor for Readers Digest.
