Wally Gilbert (1946)

Biography

Wally Gilbert (b. Sussex, UK 1946) studied at West Sussex School of Art and Design (1964) and Chelsea College of Art (1966-69). Between 1982-88 he worked for Louis Osman, Architect and Goldsmith. He has designed jewellery and recived many private and institutional commissions which have included ecclesiastical silverware and recently expanded to include patterns for windows and bridges and a cast iron beam at the Art Workers Guild, Queen’s Square, London (2017). He has held residencies atat NITA, Canberra, Australia (2003); John Michael Kohler Arts Centre (foundry), USA (both in 2004 and 2008) and in Philadelphia at the bronze casting foundry with Julia & Shane Stratton (2007) and won several awards, notably from the Goldsmiths Crafts Council. He was made a fellow of Herefordshire College of Art (2012).
