Siri Magnus-Lagercrantz (1875 - 1944)

Biography

Siri Elise Magnus-Lagercrantz (b. Gothenburg, Sweden 1875 – d. Uppsala 1944) studied art with Carl Larsson (1953-1919) at Valand’s Painting School, Gothenburg (1892) and at the Artist’s Union School, Stockholm under Robert (Bob) Thegerström (1857-1919) before going to the Académie Colarossi in Paris. She also studied graphics at the Künstlerinnenverein's school in Munich and with Max Kleinsorg (1966-1914) in Copenhagen.  She became a pioneer of the modern woodcut in Sweden and was a member of the Association Original-Träsnitt. Throughout her lifetime Magnus-Lagercrantz exhibited with the Association of Swedish Female Artists and the Association of Original Woodcuts and she was included in The famous and the forgotten. Female Swedish modernists 1900-1930 at Norrköping Art Museum in 2006.
