Robert Henry Lee (1915 - 2007)

Biography

Robert Henry Lee (b. Bingley 1915 - d. 2007) attended Bradford College of Art (1932–7) and Royal College of Art (1937–40), where he was taught by John Nash, Edward Bawden and Percy Horton. He taught at Hammersmith College of Art in 1947 but returned to his native Yorkshire in 1949, first becoming art master at Heckmondwike Grammar School and then moved to Batley School of Art where he became deputy head in 1957 until 1969. He also taught at Bingley College of Education, Huddersfield Polytechnic, Bretton College and Bradford and Ilkley College. For over 25 years, he regularly exhibited his crafted 3-D boxed constructions and had a solo show at Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln (1978) as well as a retrospective at Bretton Hall, Yorkshire (1991).
