Philip Braham RSA (1959)

Biography

Philip Braham (b. Glasgow, Scotland, UK 1959) studied at the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee and the Royal Academy of Fine Art (KABK), The Hague (1981). He was a visiting artist at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1982. In 1989 he was represenetd by the Raab Gallery (London and Berlin) and later, BCA Gallery, London. He has had solo exhibitions at Perth Museum & Art Gallery, The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, Roger Billcliffe Gallery, Glasgow, and at the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh, in addition to numerous group shows both nationally and internationally. His paintings and photographs are held in many public and private collections and art foundations, including Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA). Braham has received the Royal Scottish Academy Guthrie Award for painting and the Royal Scottish Academy Morton Award for lens-based work. In 2021, Braham was elected to the Royal Scottish Academy. He is Programme Director for Art & Philosophy at his alma mater, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee.
