Peter Dunbar (1929 - 1983)

Biography

Peter Dunbar (b. London 1929 - d. London 1983) attended Woolwich Polytechnic Art School (1944–46) and Camberwell School of Art (1946–7), where John Minton and Lawrence Gowing were influences, as well as the Anglo-French Art Centre (1948–9). Dunbar was an illustrator on the Financial Times; art director of The Economist, 1959–68, then a consultant; director of PD Associates; Matthews, Miller, Dunbar; and art director at Ballantine Books. He had group shows at St George’s Gallery (1953); 4 Young Painters, Blackheath (1955-the others were Robert Hunt, Gordon Richards and Owen Wood) and Camberwell School of Art (1964–5).
