Nicholas Volley (b. Grimsby, Lincolnshire, UK 1950 - d. London 2006) attended the Grimsby School of Art (1967-70) and then went to the Slade School of Fine Art (1970-5), gaining a Boise Travelling Scholarship in 1975. Shows included the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition (1982) and he had solo exhibitions at the Ian Birksted Gallery (1981 and 1983) and then with Browse & Darby from 1986. He had a retrospective at the Water Museum in Lisbon (2002). He was a figurative painter working on a large scale producing dark pictures with Kitchen Sink School overtones. The designer Paul Smith, actor John Cleese and The Duke of Devonshire own his work.
