Mizuho Koizumi (1972)

Biography

Mizuho Koizumi (b. Saitama, Japan 1972) is a silversmith who studied at the London Guildhall; graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2001; and also trained with a number of makers, including the jeweller, Mah Rana. She is based in Cockpit Studios and also teaches at Kemsingtaon and Chelsea College. She combines man-made materials with plant life for her beautiful silverware.  She pays homage to a variety of flowers and plants including the rose, magnolia, weeping willow, thistle and lavender. Mizuho's new work expands on her development of an intricate process of weaving with silver to create sculptural yet functional open-weave basket forms, each incorporating a flower vase.
