Michael Scott (1946 - 2006)

Biography

Michael Scott (b. Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, UK 1946 - d. 2006) studied political science at Liverpool University (1965-8); trained as a teacher in Hull for a year, then settled in Glasgow. He undertook sociological research, then lectured at what became Glasgow Caledonian University (1972-1996). Scott studied for many years with the painter John Boyd (1940-2001), including life classes at Glasgow School of Art (1975-1990). In 1989 Scott won the David Cargill Senior Award at Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and in 1991 the Paper Tiger Award 1990. In 1990 he was elected a professional member of Society of Artists adn Craftsmen. Group exhibitions also included the Smith Biennial, Smith Art Gallery, Stirling, 1985–7; Royal Academy Summer Exhibition from 1988; Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh from 1989; and Royal Institute of Oil Painters from same year. Solo shows have included  at The Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton in 2002, and at the Portland Gallery, London in 2004.
