Michael Pennie (1936 - 2019)

Biography

Micahael Pennie (b. 1936 Wallasey, Cheshire - d. 2019) studied at Sunderland College of Art, 1953–7, then Royal College of Art, 1957–61, in the latter year attending British School in Rome.  He participated in many group shows and solo exhibitions including Angela Flowers Gallery, Demarco Gallery in Edinburgh and Artsite, Bath in 1989. In 1983 he was involved in the Making Sculpture at Tate Gallery; in 1984 had a sabbatical to work on three commissions; and in 1985–6 was included in British Artists in Italy, 1920–80, touring show.  He was a teacher at Bath Academy of Art and Bath College of Higher Education from 1962, moving to Corsham in 1964. In early 1970s was appointed a Gregynog Fellow at University College of Wales in Aberystwyth. 

Collections holding Pennie’s work include Arts Council, which has his abstract sculptures Ziggurat and 4 Spheres and 4 Cubes.
