Michael Leach (1913 - 1985)

Biography

Michael Leach (b. Tokyo, Japan 1913) was taught by Shoji Hamada (1894-1978) at The Leach Pottery in 1922, which had been founded two years earlier in St Ives by Hamada and Michael's father, Bernard. He worked there under his elder brother, David, whilst teaching at Penzance School of Art and raising a family next to the pottery at Beagle Cross.  He founded Yelland Pottery in North Devon in 1956 where he stayed until he retired in 1984
