Michael Fussell (1927 - 1974)

Biography

Michael Fussell (b. Southampton, UK 1927-d. 1974) studied at City & Guilds Art School, St Martin’s School of Art, 1946–9, and Royal College of Art, 1949–52, under Rodrigo Moynihan. He also Taught at St Martin’s and from 1964 was head of fine art at Wimbledon School of Art. He had his first solo exhibition at Beaux Arts Gallery in 1956 and exhibited at Young Contemporaries, Royal Academy and British Painting in the Sixties, Whitechapel Art Gallery, 1963, which was organised by the Contemporary Art Society. The Arts Couincil organisied a retrospective for him in 1976. He lived for many years in London and was married to the artist Evelyn Williams (1929-2012).
