Margaret Alston (1956)

Biography

Margaret Alston (b. Liverpool, UK 1956) studied art and design at Trent Polytechnic, Nottingham; North Staffordshire Polytechnic, Stoke-On-Trent and a postgraduate in glass at  the Royal College of Art (1983-5). She lives in Bradford-upon-Avon and continues use the ancient technique of pâte-de-verre. She crushes glass with a pestle and mortar and uses the carefully selected fine coloured granules to line a unique mould. This is fired in a kiln to produce ethereal and translucent vessels that have a timeless quality of great beauty. She is represented by Adrian Sassoon who exhibits her work in major art fairs throughout Europe.
