Máire Littledale (1910 - 1994)

Biography

Máire Littledale (b. UK 1910 - d. Yorkshire, UK 1994) trained at the Slade School of Fine Art (1933-5) where she won the 1934 wood-engraving prize. In 1934-5 she made a wood engraving 'Alphabet of British Birds', a set of which was presented to the British Museum by the Contemporary Art Society in 1936 (1936,0613.102-127). In September 1934 she married the Austrian-born industrialist and economist Dr Georg Tugendhat (1898-1973) who settled in England in 1921 and who later founded a petrochemical refinery in Manchester.
