Lorri Whiting (1927 - 2019)

Biography

Lorri Whiting (b. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 1927 - d. Orbetello, Italy 2019) was an Australian abstract painter and sculptor (and sister of Malcolm Fraser, former PM) who worked in London, England (1952–55) and then lived on the Viale de Trastevere, 259, Rome, Italy between 1955 and 1988, becoming a central part of the Italian art world, and, lastly, in Orbetello. After the death of her husband, the poet, Bertram 'Bertie' Whiting (1923-1989) whom she had married in 1948, she established the BR Whiting Studio, an apartment in Rome, which she gifted to the Australia Council in honour of him.
