Biography
Lindsay Anderson (b. Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK 1947) attended Sutton Coldfield School of Art (1963–5), then gained a first-class honours degree in sculpture from Leeds College of Art (1965–8). After a dozen years, she returned to work as an artist in 1980, beginning with drawings and etchings, then in 1988 began to carve and paint simple boxes, which became more narrative and evolved into the panels for which she became known. These were in limewood, painted, and for her were “a kind of drawing with chisels”. They express a semi-autobiographical narrative, involving mysterious dreaming women, standing winged guardian seraphim and strange, serene faces. From 1995 sha has lived in Loodn and solo exhibitions included England & Co (1996) whilst group shows included Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, (1990); The Woodcarver’s Art, Crafts Council tour, and Christmas Show, Ruskin Gallery in Sheffield (both 1993); and Fish, Hove Museum and Art Gallery, 1995. John Makepeace, at Parnham House and Gallery and Newport Museum and Art Gallery own her work.
