

Leonhard Fanto (b. Vienna, Austria – d. Dresden, Germany 1940) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna between 1892-95 and then at Académie Julian, Paris under Jean-Paul Laurens (1838-1921) and Jean-Joseph Constant (1845-1902). From 1898 he travelled to the Balkans and by 1902 he was employed as the artistic director for the New Court Theatre, Dresden, designing historical costumes and stage sets.
