Layla Curtis (1975)

Biography

Layla Curtis (b. Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK 1975) studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art (1994-98) and sculpture at Chelsea College of Art (1999-2000). She was a resident at Akiyoshidai International Arts Village, Akiyoshidai, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan in 1999 and had a solo exhibition at Milton Keynes Gallery, followed by at Rhodes + Mann, London in 2001. She has received many commissions including from Turner Contemporary, Margate in 2004 and had solo exhibitions including Message in a Bottle from Ramsgate to the Chatham Islands, Droit House, Margate, UK, 2004; at The New Art Gallery Walsall, 2006; Traceurs: to trace, to draw, to go fast, Chelsea Futurespace, London, Polar Wandering, Gimpel Fils, London (both 2008); Revolver (Part 1), Matt's Gallery, London - with Andrew Kötting & Juneau Projects (2012); Antipodes, Cube Gallery / Phoenix, Leicester and Spacex, Exeter (2013) and Heatscapes, The Gallery / Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle (2018) as well as participating in many group shows throughout the UK and abroad.
