Josselin Reginald Cortenay Bodley (1893 - 1974)

Biography

Josselin Bodley (b. Paris 1893 - d. Paris 1974) studied in Paris and became a painter of architectural and landscape subjects. His earliest paintings are from the First World War whilst he was a soldier. He was awarded a Chevalier of the Legion d’Honneur and his paintings are held in museums in Europe and USA.  He showed at the Leicester Galleries and the Beaux Arts Galleries in London and at Manchester City Art Gallery. He was the brother of the Arabist Ronald Victor Courtenay Bodley (1892-1970), the author who at T. E. Lawrence;s suggestion went to live in the Sahara for several years from 1919, publishing Algeria from Within in 1927 where Josselin probably painted A City on th Hill (1928) in The Wilson, Cheltenham.
