Jonathan Froud (1958)

Biography

Jonathan Froud (b. Hengistbury Head, Dorset 1958) studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art (1975–6), Brighton Polytechnic (1976–9) and the Royal College of Art (1979–82) where he later taught part-time. In 1982-3 he travelled in South America. He is a sculptor who has shown pieces at Tate Britain, the Serpentine Gallery and at the New Contemporaries, ICA, London (1979) - where he was a prize winneras well as Quarries, Camden Arts Centre (1983) and Drawings, Chelsea School of Art (1985). In 1984–5, Froud was the Fourth Merseyside Artist in Residence at the Bridewell Studios and had a solo show at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool (1985). He has won the Chelsea Arts Club/Guinness Award for Most Promising Young Sculptor, the Cox Award and an award from The Henry Moore Foundation, a Royal College of Art major travel scholarship which enabled him to go to Carrrara in Italy, British Council Royal Wedding Award, Greater London Arts Association Bursary, and the Sculpture prize at the Royal Academy Summer Show. He has undertaken many private commissions including Earthman for Anita Roddick. His materials include glass and water, plastic waste pipes and computer printouts.
