John Creed (1938)

Biography

John Creed (b. Heswall, Cheshire, UK 1938) studied at Liverpool College of Art (1955–9) and Liverpool University. From 1971–95, he taught in Glasgow School of Art’s silversmithing and jewellery department. Having established a forge at Milton of Campsie, Dunbartonshire, in 1988, Creed carried out a series of notable commissions. These included entrance gates for the Borders Regional Council, Newton St Boswells, 1990; internal doors for the Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, 1995; Roof Sculpture and Entrance Gate for the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, 1996–7; and the Benchmark seats for Norrie Miller Park, Perth, 1998.
