Biography
James Betts (b. Skipton, UK 1897 - d. 1980) studied at Bradford College of Art and then at the Royal College of Art. In the 1920s and 30s he was head of the school of painting at Sheffield College of Art and then principal of Kingston School of Art. Until the late 1950s he was Professor of Fine Art at Reading University. He exhibited in London, Paris and New York. The National Portrait Gallery holds a photograph portrait of him (1954). He lived in Caversham, Berkshire. His work is held in the Reading Museum.
