Biography
Hilde De Decker (b. Belgium 1965) studied interior design at the Sint-Lucas Instituut, Ghent and jewellery at the Karel de Grote Hogeschool, Antwerp. She teaches jewellery design at KdG-Sint Lucas in Antwerp and her work has been shown in exhibitions across Europe. Work by Hilde is held in public collections including the Marzee Collection, the Design Museum Gent in Belgium and the Alice and Louis Koch Collection in Zurich. Her work explores the limits of traditional jewellery, interacting with a disparate range of disciplines from the arts to horticulture. Her pieces, she says, are about seeking instead of finding, trying to understand without suggestion or imposition. The metaphor of the home and the materiality of everyday life is central, and her work has to be approached as sensorial architecture made up of several chambers.
