Helena Maria Beltrão de Barros (1937)

Biography

Helena Maria Beltrão de Barros (b. Rio de Janeiro 1937) studied painting with Frank Shaeffer, in Rio de Janeiro in 1959 and engraving with Iberê Camargo in 1961. She ilustrated the book Targo, the dog of Circo Samy, by Armando de Oliveira Santos in 1963,  She won the drawing prize at the collective Arte Atual de América e Espanha, which granted her a trip to Europe in  1964. 

She had solo shows including at Piccola Galeria, Rio de Janeiro; Belo Horizonte Museum of Art, Belo Horizonte, MG; Vila Rica Gallery, São Paulo, SP (1960); Gallery of the Copacabana Palace Hotel, Rio de Janeiro (1968); Studio Gallery, Rio de Janeiro (1973) and Quadrant Art Gallery, Rio de Janeiro (1976) and several group exhibitions, including the following: 14th Municipal Hall of Fine Arts of Belo Horizonte, Belo Horizonte (1959); 10th São Paulo Salon of Modern Art, Galeria Prestes Maia, São Paulo (1961);Arte de América y España, Madrid and Barcelona, ​​Spain; Paris, France; Munich, Germany; Milan, Italy; and Bern, Switzerland (1962); Bienal de São Paulo, São Paulo (1963); 2nd Young Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art, Florianópolis, SC (1969);  Fourth Young Contemporary Art Exhibition: a way of representing the impossible, Museum of Contemporary Art, University of São Paulo, São Paulo (1970) and 9th Panorama of Current Brazilian Art, Museum of Modern Art, São Paulo (1977).
