George Buday (1907 - 1990)

Biography

George Buday (b. Hungary 1907 - d. Coulsdon, Surrey, UK 1990) was a Hungarian/British printmaker, author and teacher. He attended Kolozsvar and Szeged University, graduating in 1934, before moving to Britain in 1937 where  he worked as a book illustator and author of a series of 'Little Books' including Little Book of Hungarian folk tales (1943) and in 1954 The History of Christmas Cards. He was elected to the Royal Society of Painters-Etchers in 1953 and became a fellow of the Society of Wood Engravers a year later. He exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts among other institutions.
