Eric Stephen Jones (1904 - 1963)

Biography

Eric Stephen Jones (b. Romford, Essex 1904 - d. Sheffield, UK 1963) studied at the Camberwell School of Art and then from 1925 under William Rothenstein (1872-1945) at the Royal College of Art. He was a Rome scholar for engraving at the end of the 1920's. He then taught at the Sheffield College of Art from 1931 until his death in 1962. He exhibited at the New English Art Club. Jones was president of Sheffield Society of Artists. He illustrated for the Cresset Press. His work is held in the V&A Museum, the Sheffield Museum and the British Museum. He lived in Sheffield and a memorial exhibition of his work was held at the Graves Art Gallery in 1964. He was the twin brother of the artist, Harold Jones.
