Dinora Mendelson Davies-Rees (1924 - 2009)

Biography

Dinora Mendelson, Mrs Davies Rees (b. London, UK 1924 - d. Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex 2009) was the daughter of the artist Lilian Holt (1898-1983) and her first husband Jacob Mendelson, and upon her mother’s second marriage, she became step-daughter to the painter David Bomberg (1890-1957), with whom she studied at the Borough Polytechnic from 1947-53, becoming a member of the Borough Group and the Borough Bottega. She was included in the Borough Group shown at Fine Art Associates in 1989. She was married to the painter Leslie Marr (1948-1956), whom she also introduced to Bomberg's classes; her second marriage was to the actor Bernard Davies-Rees. She also exhibited at the Archer Gallery, Arcade Gallery, Bookworm and Berkeley Galleries and with The London Group and the National Society. Ben Uri Gallery and Museum holds her work.
