David Pugh Evans ARCA RSA RSW (1942 - 2020)

Biography

David Pugh Evans (b. in Abercarn, Monmouthshire, Wales, UK - d. Edinburgh, Scotland, UK 2020) studied at Newport College of Art, 1959–62, then at Royal College of Art, 1962–5. In 1965 he won the College’s Silver Medal for Painting. He travelled in Spain and Morocco before becoming a lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art. He had a solo shows at New 57 Gallery in Edinburgh in 1966, and at Marjorie Parr and Gilbert Parr in London. Evans was Granada Arts Fellow at University of York, 1968–9, and travelled through America in 1975–6. He was a member of RSW and was elected RSA in 1989. Evans was noted for his Hyper-Realist interiors which often have a tinge of suspense or mystery about them.
