David Austen (1960)

Biography

David Austen (b. Harlow, Essex, UK 1960) attended Maidstone College of Art, 1978–81, then Royal College of Art, 1982–5. In 2001, he was living in the Blue Mountains, Australia, and had a solo exhibition at Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich, which linked to its ethnographical and natural sciences collection. Group shows included Canvass: New British Painters, John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, and tour, 1986; New Editions, Cirrus, Los Angeles (1991); and Take it From Here, Sunderland Museum and Art Gallery (1996). He had solo shows at Anthony Reynolds Gallery (2986) and Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh (2003). He paints in oil and mixed media and his pictures frequently contain an assemblage of objects.
