Charlie Meaker (1946 - 2011)

Biography

Charlie Meaker (b. Billings, Montana, USA 1946 - d. Copenhagen, Denmark 2011) attended Montana State College and gradauted in professional design in 1968. He was a manager of the US ski team for the World Cup, 1972-1974 but following a serious accident he went to London and started his glass career by taking an introductory course at The Glasshouse in 1974 and then studied at the Royal College of Art between 1977-79; in Toronto, Canada, 1975-1976, and in Sweden, 1976-1977. He was a glass designer at Dartington Crystal in England. He taught for many years at Sunderland and, for the last 30 years of his life, at the Design School in Copenhagen as well as director of Inferno Glassworks, Bornholm, Denmark.
