Charles Murray (1894 - 1954)

Biography

Charles Murray (b. Aberdeen, Scotland, UK 1894 - d. London 1954), grandson of a sculptor, studied at Glasgow School of Art (1908–11), and, on a Prix de Rome for etching at the British School in Rome (1922-5).  He spent two years serving with the White Army in Russia (1918–20), and later travelled extensively in Europe, including a visit to Iceland with an archaeological expedition. . A memorial exhibition was held at Temple Newsam, Leeds (1955).
