Major Cecil Brown RA RBS (1867 - 1926)

Biography

Cecil Brown (b. Ayr, Scotland, UK 1867 - d. 1926) was a Scottish painter and sculptor and medal maker. He was educated at Harrow and Exeter College, Oxford and later studied art in London and Paris. He also pursued a military career which allowed him to study horses in detail. He published the book The Horse in Art and Nature in 1987. He taught art at Charterhouse School from 1907 until 1910, and at Bedford School from 1920. He became a member of the Royal Society of English Sculptors in 1909. He exhibited at the Salon des Artists Français in Paris and at the Royal Academy of Arts, London.
