Biography

Caroline Douglas did a postgraduate degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London in the 1990s and, after working at the British Council, she was subsequently the Head of the Arts Council Collection (2006-13) where she curated The Gathering: Building the Arts Council Collection: 1973-2009 (2009) and co-curated with Katrina Brown (Common Guild) the Structure & Material exhibition of work by Becky Beasley, Claire Barclay and Karla Black both at the Arts Council's Longside Gallery in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2011). She was instrumental in acquiring, for example, Roger Hiorn's Seizure (2008) for the ACC and now at YSP, which had originally been commissioned by Artangel and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation, transforming an empty council flat in Southwark, London, into a sparkling blue environment of copper sulphate crystals, thanks to a gift by the artist, Artangel and the Jerwood Charitable Foundation through Art Fund, with the support of The Henry Moore Foundation. Caroline Douglas was on the panel for CAS Annual Award (2010) and became Director of the Contemporary Art Society in October 2013.
