Brian McCann (1952 - 2014)

Biography

Brian McCann (b. Glasgow, Scotland, UK 1952 - d. London 2014) studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, 1976–80, and the Royal College of Art, 1980–3.  He was a Prix de Rome Scholar, 1984–6. In 1988 McCann became a tutor at Kingston Polytechnic, the year following gaining a Tate Momart Fellowship at Tate Gallery, Liverpool. His work was included in Sculpture & Sculptors’ Drawings at William Jackson Gallery, 1991. His solo shows included Towards the Fire, at Salisbury Art Gallery and Festival, 1988; Bournemouth Sculpture Festival in 1991; in the same year Watermans Art Centre, Brentford; Harriet Green Gallery, 1996; and Becoming Visible at Pilgrim Gallery, 2003. McCann was married to the sculptor Valerie Merlo.
