Beatrice 'Trixie' Mary Christy (1910 - 2003)

Biography

Beatrice 'Trixie' Mary Christy (b. Barnes, London 1910 - d. Reading, UK 2003) attended an art college in London (1928) and in 1930 exhibited at the Royal Academy (1930) and The Chicago Arts Institute (1939). Her wood engravings were well regarded and a copy of one, White Lodge, Richmond (RCIN 703028) was purchased by Elizabeth, Queen Mother as it was where she and King George VI lived after their marriage.  She illustrated two books Unusual Savouries and A Medley of Recipes both written by Dorothy Allhusen who was the daughter of Lady Jeune, later Baroness St Hellier, whcih were published in 1935 and 1936. During the 1930s she was living with her parents in Harrow on the Hill and her prints of the village, Ashwell, Hertfordshire, her father's birth place, are held by the Ashwell Museum. After the seceond World War she worked for Courtaulds after which she trained as an Occupational Therapist working at Shenley Mental Hospital until she retired.
