André Favory (b. Paris, France 1889 – d. Paris, France 1937) studied at the Académie Julian, Paris before the First World War and was inspired by Cézanne and Cubism. His experience in the trenches profoundly affected him and later he became more interested in depicting traditional subjects in his art, like nudes having been influenced by the Flemish master Rubens whose work he looked at on visits to Belgium, as well as being an illustrator. He exhibited regularly in major Salons in Paris during the 1920s as well as in Brussels and internationally but a debilitating illness prevented him from working from the early 1930s.
