Allan McNab (1901 - 1982)

Biography

McNab studied at the Royal College of Art and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, 1929-30. He exhibited widely between 1924-35 at the Royal Academy of Arts, Beaux Arts Gallery, Chenil Gallery, Abbey Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy, Fine Arts Society, Goupil Gallery, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool and the New English Art Club. He moved to the USA in the 1930s and was design director for Norman Bel Geddes; appointed art director for Life Magazine (1945-50); then moved into art administration as director of the Lowe Gallery (1950-55), assistant director Art Institute, Chicago (1956-7) and art consultant to the Mayo Foundation from 1967; later lived in Savannah, Georgia.  He married firstly the actress and wallpaper designer, Dorothy Cumming (1894-1983) and secondly the sculptor, Marjorie Kreilick.
