The Aspen Collection of contemporary art is an evocative representation of the company’s core values and public image across its international offices. Many of the works in the collection are acquired from artists at an early stage of their career, having been identified as showing great promise.
Aspen works with the Contemporary Art Society in London to develop the collection, a charitable organisation that supports public collections through its art advisory services.
In these ways Aspen invests in the cultural future of people, aligning the company’s ethos to a supportive approach to art and creativity. The fundamental coherence of an artwork is the crucial factor in selection for the collection – a combination of compelling ideas and execution, genuine creativity and a persuasive visual force.
Many of the works convey a potent impression of the natural world that exists outside the prevailing urban setting. What is most interesting about the collection is that these ideas are not conveyed via a literal focus on nature/landscape but through a ‘sideways’ glance with works that provoke questioning and invite contemplation.
In a sense, the Aspen Collection looks to provide unexpected windows onto the world that help us to see things just that little bit differently.
